As a treat for our second day in New York, I booked to take my mum to Balthazar for breakfast. I've always wanted to go the one in London, and seeing as New York is the original, I just had to book a table immediately!
The cuisine is french and the breakfast menu is filled with tempting dishes such as brioche, eggs benedict, eggs norwegian (or eggs royale as I know it) and assorted pastries. After much debating, we both opted for the scrambled Eggs in Puff Pastry with wild mushrooms and asparagus – which was devine! The flakiest puff pastry encasing velvety smooth scrambled eggs – perfection!
...all washed down with a bowl of coffee!
After filing our tummies, we headed off into the city for a long day of exploring. First up on the list was Macy's - billed as the world's largest store.....
Followed by a jaunt into grand central terminal, the backdrop to many of my favourite movie scenes. According to Time Out, almost every movie that has been filmed at the station has been shot on Track
34, as it’s one of the few platforms without columns.
As my mum isn’t a fan of the subway and cabs can be really expensive, we decided a great way to get around the city was to board one of the open top buses. This would have been a brilliant idea, had any of the buses from the company we bought tickets with (Skyline) turned up! We waited at a bus stop for almost 40 minutes before a bus conductor from a different sight sighting tour firm felt sorry for us and let us jump board his bus! At this point we were frozen so we clambered on board, sat ourselves in the covered top-deck and listened whilst the conductor pointed out different sights and told us trivia about the city….
After being dazzled by the lights of times square, we hopped off the bus for a peroni and a breather before heading back out to absorb more of new york - but more of that later, for now i give you pizza:
