Shop My Favourites:

    Wednesday, 3 February 2016

One of the greatest perks of my job has to be getting the opportunity to eat in some fabulous restaurants. At my old firm (have I mentioned I've got a new job?!), I was lucky enough to host a media lunch at one of my favourite chef's restaurants: City Social.

City Social is one of the many strings in Jason Atherton's bow. You can find the restaurant on the 24th floor of the old Natwest building - also known as Tower 42 (did you know the building resembles an X if looked at from above?) where they serve great British food in keeping with Mr Atherton's ethos.
For our lunch, we were seated in the chef's table which provided beautiful views over the capital and a sneaky peek into the workings of the busy kitchen. I find it fascinating watching chefs at work - it's easy to forget the high pressure atmosphere which goes on behind the scenes while you eat!

We kicked off the menu with a smoked Scottish salmon, celeriac and apple remoulade served with pickled grapes, and walnut. It was incredibly light and the pairing of apple with salmon was a real eye-opener - real unusual but they complemented each other so well!
The main course was incredible. Slices of middle white pork loin and meaty chunks of pork belly served with grilled asparagus, shallots, black onion cracking and an apple mash. Regular readers will know I'm a massive fan of pork belly so I was always going to love this dish but the sides, particularly the asparagus, were a real stand-out.
For pudding we had one of the most interesting desserts I've ever been served in a restaurant. It was a delicately fresh Bramley apple crumble parfait served with pickled yuzu and beetroot. How beautiful does this look! It was almost too pretty to eat...almost!
I'm a big fan of Jason Atherton's restaurants and City Social certainly didn't disappoint. The view across London provides the perfect location for a celebratory lunch/dinner or the perfect setting if you're trying to impress on a date! I know I'll be heading back for the dinner menu ASAP.
